Powerlifting

  • Program Overview

Power Lifting at Waller High School is designed for the student athlete to lift weights, compete, and enjoy being a part of a team. The program is designed for either girls or boys, any size big or small. The team usually competes in 3 or 4 meets over the season. The schedule is set up for meets every other week to allow the athlete to gain strength for the next meet. The team will take the last week of the season off so that lifters that have qualified for the Region 4 Meet will be in top form going into the meet.

Waller High School hosts one of the premiere meets in the greater Houston area. Teachers, and staff members throughout the district and even community members work at the meet. A big part of the judges come from former lifters in the program.

The Power Lifting Program has sent numerous girls and boys to the Regional Meet. The Power Lifting Program has also sent several athletes to the State Meet. The girls program has one Region 2 Team Championship along with one runner up finish. They also have posted a third place team finish in the State Meet and a total of 5 individual State Champions. The boys program has sent numerous student athletes to the Regional Meet and to the State Meet. There have been two boys that have finished in the top 5 in the state.

Along with all the success in the weight room, these students are also held accountable with their grades. These students are expected to be a good role model and excel in the classroom.
