Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Brittany Ortega
Hi! I am Waller High School's French teacher. I have been teaching French since 2009. I started my teaching at Lufkin High School, teaching French 1 all day. Since coming to Waller in 2012, I have gradually gained more and more students and now WHS offers 4 levels of French. I am very excited to be a part of our growing French program. In addition to teaching French, I also coach the 5 UIL Journalism events. I love to write and I am ecstatic to have the opportunity to share this passion with students outside the classroom setting.
Everyone always wants to know how I learned French; No, I am not a native French-speaker. I took Spanish classes throughout high-school and junior college. When I was 19, I was given the opportunity to be a live-in nanny in Switzerland, and that is where I began learning French. The 2 boys I cared for spoke French and were just beginning to learn English. We taught each other our native languages, and the rest is history....
I went to school at Stephen F Austin State University (go Jacks!) where I majored in French and minored in Creative Writing. In 2012, I got married and became Mrs Ortega - of course there is nothing confusing about have a French teacher with a Hispanic last name. It always creates a fun conversation for the first day of school.
In 2016, I became a mommy to a handsome little man. Being Mrs Ortega and Mommy has been an adjustment for me, but I'm starting to get a hang of it.
The absolute best way to contact me is by email. My phone doesn't have very good reception in my classroom and my son doesn't like to share my attention at home. Please, never hesitate to contact me by email or via the school's main number.
