Just a little about me

I am so excited to start my sixth year at Turlington Elementary!  I am committed to student success inside of the classroom and in their everyday lives.

My Experience

In 1992, I began my journey at the Richmond State Supported Living Center, a 24-hour facility working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and worked there for five years.

My Education

I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from the Stephen F. Austin State University and a Master of Education in Special Education at the Lamar University.

My Professional Background

My educational career started at Fort Bend ISD for nine years, then Montgomery ISD for seven years, Willis ISD for one year, and Hempstead ISD for one year. While working at several districts throughout the years, I have worked with many students with special needs who displayed various disabilities ranging from mild/moderate/severe disabilities, including autism, deaf-blindness, developmental delay, emotional disturbance, hearing impairment, and many more.

My Family

On a personal note, I have been married for 33 years to my high school sweetheart Will Henry. We have three beautiful daughters, Kandice (25), Delah (13), and D'Annah (12). In my spare time, I love to sing in the church choir and play the keyboard.

My Educational Philosophy

I honestly believe that it is important to teach and give your heart to all students regardless of their disability, race, or background.  In an instant, a child’s life can be affected by our comments, facial expressions, and your reaction to them. I will create an encouraging environment that fosters learning and values diversity. I will recognize that one teaching style and instruction will not necessarily work for all. It is essential to change and adapt my instruction based upon the knowledge and past experiences that students bring to the classroom.
