Mrs. Mercedes Contreras

Welcome to 6th grade ELAR!

I am so elated to be teaching here at Waller Junior High.  I am a true product of Waller ISD.  I attended Roberts Road Elementary, then 5th and 6th grade at Schultz (before it became a junior high). Later I attended Waller Junior High, and finally graduated in 2006 from Waller High School.  I continued my education through a soccer scholarship, among others, at Prairie View A&M University where I graduated in 2009.  I worked one year at Schultz Junior High as a LEP tutor and with Waller ISD Transportation. The subsequent year I began my teaching career in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD and stayed there for three years. I made my way back to my beloved Waller ISD and feel right at home in the community that I grew up in!

The most important people in my life are my family and close friends. I like having movie nights with my husband, playing outside with my three boys, and playing soccer on the weekends.  I also enjoy reading in my spare time and getting together with friends.

My goal for my avid readers and writers is to help deepen their love and passion for reading and writing.  For my struggling readers my goal is to uplift and help them develop an appreciation and love for reading and writing and to let them know I too was once a struggling reader and writer.  In addition, my goal for all my students is to encourage and assure them that they already have what it takes to be successful, and I am here to help guide them on their way.
