Bond Advisory Committee Completes Facilities Tours
On the agenda for meeting two of the Waller ISD (WISD) Bond Advisory Committee (BAC) on Feb. 21 was facilities tours. The BAC met at H.T. Jones Elementary (JES) then divided into three tour groups that were guided by WISD Superintendent Kevin Moran, Secondary Chief of Schools Bennie Mayes, and Elementary Chief of Schools Angie Davis. The three tour groups loaded WISD school buses in route to Holleman Elementary, Waller Junior High, and Waller High School. During the tours, each of the guides shared facts about the campuses and what a typical school day looks like within the building. Some of the focus areas discussed were capacity, safety and security, needs for student learning, Career and Technical Education (CTE), and space and storage.
BAC members were encouraged to ask questions and district leaders were available to help answer them during the tours as well as any that were asked following the meeting. WISD Chief Information Officer Rosa Ojeda made it possible to ensure all attendees were able to clearly hear the tour guides through the use of wireless headsets typically used in the district for translation purposes.
“This was the best facility tour I’ve ever been on,” one attendee said. “The headsets made it easy to hear everything the tour guide was saying. Everything was well organized and easy to follow.”
All meetings of the BAC are open to the public to attend and all information/materials for each will be posted at www.wallerisd.net. The next meeting of the BAC will begin at 6 p.m. March 7 at JES. This meeting will include a debrief of the facilities tour; teaching and learning information; needs to consider for safety and security, technology, and transportation; and an overview of the district’s long-range planning process.
