2019 Bond Advisory Committee Completes Work
The 2019 Waller ISD (WISD) Bond Advisory Committee (BAC) met for its seventh and final meeting on May 16. During the meeting, the committee celebrated the bond package they selected during meeting 6 on May 2.
Immediately prior to the May 16 BAC meeting, WISD received new and positive financial information. WISD Superintendent Kevin Moran and Chief Financial Officer Mike Marcus shared three new pieces of information: Harris and Waller County Appraisal Districts reported a much higher than anticipated certified projected revenue, land developers in the district are reporting more rapid construction that previously anticipated; and, in Austin, lawmakers have passed a bill that will provide tax relief to public school districts. HB 3 has been sent to Governor Greg Abbott for signature. When approved, it could mean a tax decrease of approximately 7 cents per $100 valuation.
With all this information discussed, Moran and WISD Board President David Kaminski asked the committee to consider the addition of funds allotted to land purchases for future school sites to the recommended bond package. After questions and discussion, the committee decided to include an allotment for land.
The committee completed their work by analyzing the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of their bond package. The BAC will present their work and recommended November 2019 bond package to the Board of Trustees during its regular meeting on June 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Room located at 2214 Waller Street.
