HES Books Reading Time with WISD Chief
Oct. 21, students at Holleman Elementary (HES) were treated to a special guest visitor, Waller ISD Elementary Chief of Schools Angie Davis. Davis spent the entire day reading fun titles to students in their classrooms. With the help of HES staff, Davis chose three books to showcase during her visit: The Book with No Pictures, The Serious Goose, and The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors. Students were ecstatic to see a new face in their classrooms with many hugging and thanking Davis for her time.
“It’s good to be in the classroom and get to know the kids and teachers,” Davis said. “They see me on their campus and start to recognize me as someone who is there for them. It’s a way to build a relationship.”
Davis, a former elementary teacher and principal, began visiting campuses last year as a way to connect with the campus students, teachers, and staff. This year, her plan is to take time once a month to read to students at one of the district’s five elementary campuses. The new tradition is so popular that when the sign-up sheet was available for teachers to choose a timeslot for Davis to visit, the spots were completely filled within an hour.
