PE

  •

As Turlington Elementary's PE teacher, I am responsible for teaching the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for elementary physical education and health which have been developed from the following three strands:

    • Movement - The student demonstrates competency in fundamental movement patterns, applies movement concepts to the learning and development of motor skills.
    • Physical Activity and Health - The student exhibits a physically active lifestyle, knows the benefits of daily physical activity and understands and applies safety practices associated with physical activities.
    • Social Development - The student understands basic components of games, sports, dance, and gymnastics and develops positive self-management and social skills needed to work independently and with others in physical activity settings.

    Goals
My goal as the elementary PE teacher at Turlington Elementary is to teach my students that physical fitness and health are two life-long habits. I want them to understand the importance of exhibiting a physically active lifestyle and understand that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction. My personal goal is to provide an environment in my classroom that is encouraging, positive, stimulating, and most of all exhilarating! Each day when my students leave my class, I want them to know how special they are to me and how important it is to live a healthy and physically active lifestyle.
